For the Casserole
  • 1 loaf French bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup maple syrup for serving

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • 9x13 inch Baking Dish
  • Plastic wrap
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Oven mitts

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the cubed French bread with the melted butter. Toss the bread gently to ensure each piece is coated evenly.
  2. Step 2: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes. Using a spatula, gently stir to ensure all the bread is soaked.
  4. Step 4: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Step 5: The next day, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Step 6: Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
  8. Step 8: Serve warm with a generous drizzle of maple syrup over the top.

Notes

Consider adding sliced bananas, berries, or diced apples to the bread mixture for extra flavor.
