  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups Granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • ½ cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 Eggs large
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until well combined.
  • Gradually pour in the boiling water while mixing on low speed. The batter will be thin.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cool, frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder. You can also add chocolate chips to the batter before baking.
