  • 0.25 cup Packed Light Brown Sugar

  • 0.25 cup Apple Cider or Juice Optional, for extra moisture

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Gently toss to coat the apples evenly.
  • Stir in the apple cider or juice (if using) and lemon juice.
  • Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie plate or a baking dish. Dot the top with the butter pieces.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the filling is bubbly.
  • If using in a pie, bake according to your pie crust recipe instructions. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a thicker filling, increase the flour to 3 tablespoons. You can also add other spices like cardamom or ginger. This filling is delicious served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
