  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

  • 0.5 cup Packed light brown sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apple filling.
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover the dish with foil for the last 15-20 minutes of baking.
  • Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For a spicier crisp, add a pinch of ginger or allspice to the filling. You can also substitute other types of apples, such as Gala or Fuji.
