These Chocolate Cupcakes filled with Oreo pudding are an absolutely decadent dessert that takes everything we love about both cupcakes and Oreos and combines them into one recipe that is rich, moist, and oh, so good. They’re the perfect dessert for any chocolate lover!
If you love cupcakes and you love Oreos, then you’ve come to the right place! This completely from scratch recipe (except the pudding) is so rich and delicious, it looks and tastes like it’s a super involved recipe, but in reality, it’s quite easy to make, which I love.
I’ve been making cupcakes for as long as I can remember. Along with cakes and pies, cupcakes are a staple dessert in the south. They’re the perfect treat for any occasion, and I’ve made them for everything from potlucks to baby showers. I’ve made all kinds of cupcake recipes over the years, as you well know if you’re a regular reader of the blog, but my latest creation is one of my favorites!
Chocolate Cupcakes with Oreo Filling
This recipe is the result of pure boredom on my part. I’ve made so many cupcakes over the years, and frankly, I wanted something totally different. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to try next, and while I was mulling it over while snagging some baking ingredients at the store, I came across something that sparked inspiration – Oreo pudding mix. Now, I’ve made filled cupcakes in the past, and I love Oreos, so I immediately knew this would be my next creation.
I am so glad I decided to give it a try. These Oreo cupcakes are absolutely divine. They use a simple chocolate cupcake recipe along with an equally simple buttercream frosting recipe. The real magic happens with the Oreo pudding that I pipe into the center of the cupcake.
These rich, tender chocolate cupcakes are topped with an absolute mountain of buttercream frosting. On its own, that combination is absolutely fantastic. Then you take a bite. First, you feel the frosting, then you’re into the cake. Then… Well, then things get really amazing. When you break through to the center of the cupcake, you get an explosion of delicious, creamy Oreo pudding that melds with the chocolate cake and buttercream to create an absolutely amazing taste that always has everyone coming back for more.
Tips
There are really only two tips for this recipe. Even though it’s a completely homemade cupcake recipe, it’s a very simple one. That being said, these two tips are extremely important. One tip will make your life easier, and one tip will make sure that your cupcakes don’t fall apart, so please read them before continuing on.
Don’t Take Out Too Much of the Chocolate Cupcake
When you use the cupcake corer to remove the center of your cupcake, be sure that you don’t go too deep into the cupcake. You want a nice space in the center of your cupcake to hold that pudding, but if you go too deep, you’ll end up with a bottom that’s too thin and will break when the cupcake is picked up. Ideally, you want to go about three-quarters of the way into the cupcake. That will leave you with a nice bottom that won’t break apart.
Use a Piping or Ziploc Bag
When adding your Oreo pudding to the center of the cupcakes, using a piping bag or Ziploc bag with the corner snipped out will save you a lot of headaches. Spooning the pudding into the center is a nightmare. You either have to use a tiny spoon, which takes forever, or you’ll end up with a mess by using a big spoon. A piping or Ziploc bag allows you to quickly and easily fill the center of the cupcake with no hassle at all.
Variations
These Oreo cupcakes use simple chocolate cake and buttercream recipes, so they’re very easy to play with. Of course, any variation you make will transform these Oreo cupcakes into something else, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
Use Different Cake
To make these chocolate cupcakes even more chocolaty with more chocolate flavor, you can use a devil’s food or German chocolate cake recipe. To completely change things up, try using a white chocolate, butter, or vanilla cupcake recipe. You’ll still get that explosion of Oreo pudding in the center, but it will just be a slightly different flavor profile. You can also opt to use a different pudding filling and change the cake recipe altogether, using strawberry, coconut, or some other cake recipe that you really enjoy.
Use Different Pudding
Try using different puddings for the center of the cupcake. You can keep things simple by using the cake and frosting recipes found here and simply use another flavor of pudding, or you can change the cake, the pudding, the frosting, or all three to create a completely new cupcake creation.
Use Different Frosting
I always go with buttercream frosting for my cupcakes, but you can try any kind of frosting that you like. Cream cheese frosting works well with cupcakes. Chocolate buttercream frosting is always a favorite. You can also flavor your buttercream or cream cheese frosting. It’s easy to do and completely changes the flavor profile of the cupcake.
Serving Oreo Cupcakes
I love to serve these cupcakes alongside a glass of milk or cup of coffee. They’re the perfect dessert, afternoon snack, or party treat. Serve them at potlucks, barbecues, pool parties, baby showers, or holiday get-togethers. They’re a classic dessert that are welcome at any event, large or small.
Try These Chocolate Cupcakes for Yourself
These Oreo cupcakes are so rich and delicious, everyone will think you spent hours in the kitchen, but they really come together in no time at all. The recipes for the cupcakes and the frosting are both very simple, and the pudding is instant, so it takes no time at all. With a recipe this decadently delicious and ridiculously easy, you absolutely must give it a try. I know you’ll love it as much as I do!
