Cheesy Beef Sliders

To me, this recipe is the perfect combination of ground hamburger meets the tastes and flavors of Sloppy Joe, all while being loaded down with cheese. Who knew that such a powerful flavor can come in such a cute little package?!

Why are they called sliders?

The name actually came about from back in the ’40s when the term was given to these mini burgers because they’re a tad bit greasy and just “slide” right down into your tummy.

While I don’t consider this slider recipe to be greasy, it does get eaten pretty easily to make room for more!

How much meat is in a slider?

It’s been said for a sandwich to be considered a slider, it should have 2 ounces of meat on it or less. That’s not a lot of meat, hence the reason that it’s served on a smaller bun due to the reduced portion size of the meat.

This slider recipe is a tad bit different since it’s loose meat but if you were to patty it all together, there’s a good chance that it’s probably right around that 2-3 ounces of meat.

Topping Ideas for Sliders

With all the cheese in this recipe, you may not want (or need) to add on any other toppings. But just in case, know that you always have the option for toppings. Some of my favorite toppings for sliders are:

  • Shredded Lettuce
  • Onion
  • Tomato
  • Dill/Sweet Pickles
  • Jalapenos
  • Salsa
  • MORE cheese

And the list can really go on and on and on. Whatever toppings that you’d normally put on a burger, you can most definitely add them to a slider as well. You can even mix in a bit of cilantro or chives to the meat mixture to add a unique and fresh taste, too.

Do you toast the buns for sliders?

For this recipe, butter bread is key! There’s just something about the richness of the butter paired up with the meat and cheese that gives these sliders the perfect delicious taste.

Since we lay the buns out on the baking sheet and then add the toppings, we really aren’t toasting the bread, per se. But we are adding MORE butter to the tops of the buns before putting them into the oven. This ensures that the buns will brown up quite nicely and still retain that delicious butter flavoring as well.

If you’re looking for a fun recipe idea that gives you that meaty and hearty flavor without a ton of time and effort on your part, you’re going to be head over heels for this simple slider recipe. It’s fast, it’s simple, and it’s certain to have you making many more cheesy beef sliders in your very near future!
