How to Pick Perfectly Ripe Avocados

First look at the color. Generally speaking, green avocados aren’t ripe. Look for dark green to black avocados. That’s where you start, but the true test is the press. If the avocado yields to gentle, firm pressure, you know it’s ripe. A ripe avocado should feel slightly soft, but not mushy.

How to Cut an Avocado

Using a sharp knife, cut down the center of the avocado, letting the blade slide along the pit down and around to the other side. Give it a twist while pulling to create two halves. Then, remove the seed and cut the two halves in half again. From there, simply use a spoon to remove the flesh from the skin. From there, place the avocado pieces flat side down and cut or dice to your desired size.
